# Build membership levels

> Give customers access to more content as they move up through subscription tiers.

A **membership** is a recurring subscription that gives customers ongoing access to your content, delivered all at once or released over time. Membership levels let you offer tiers, so customers unlock more content each time they upgrade to a higher tier.

On Kajabi, a membership isn't a single product type. You build one by connecting your content Products to a recurring Offer, and each level is its own Offer, so you decide exactly what every tier includes and what it costs.

## How memberships work on Kajabi

A membership brings together two things: the content **Products** your customers receive, and an **Offer** that charges them on a recurring schedule of weekly, monthly, or annually. A single Offer can bundle several Products, so one subscription might include a **Course**, a **Community**, and a set of **Downloads** together.

It helps to know how a membership differs from a Community. A Community is the social space where members connect with you and each other, while a membership is the recurring paid access to content that can sit around it. Most memberships use both: content to deliver the value, and a Community to keep members coming back.

## Plan membership levels

Each membership level is a separate Offer connected to one or more Products. There's no limit to how many Products a level can hold. A starter tier might connect to a single Course, while a top tier connects to several Courses, a Community, and your Downloads.

A reliable pattern is to make each higher tier include everything in the tier below it, plus something more. For example:

| Level | What's included |
| -------- | ------------------------------------------- |
| Bronze | Bronze Product |
| Silver | Bronze and Silver Products |
| Gold | Bronze, Silver, and Gold Products |
| Platinum | Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum Products |

You don't have to build every tier at once. Many creators launch with one level and add higher tiers as their content library grows.

## Create Products for each level

Before you build your Offers, create the content Products that each level will include. A Product can be a Course, Community, Download, Podcast, Coaching Program, or Newsletter. Choose the types that fit what you're delivering.

[Learn how to create a Product](/articles/get-started/foundations/step-6-create-a-product).

Group your Products by the level they belong to, so you can connect them to the right Offer in the next step.

## Create an Offer for each level

An Offer sets the price, billing schedule, and content for a level. Create one Offer per level, then connect the Products that belong to it.

1. From the Dashboard, click **Sales**, then click **Pricing**, and click **+ New Offer** to create an Offer for each membership level. [See the full Offer creation guide](https://help.kajabi.com/articles/sales/offers/create-an-offer#create-an-offer) for detailed steps.
2. Set the Offer to a recurring price, billed weekly, monthly, or annually, so customers are charged on an ongoing schedule.
3. Connect the Products for that level. For a stacked tier, add every Product from the lower tiers plus the new one, so a Gold Offer includes the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Products.
4. Repeat for each level you plan to offer.

<Tip>
**Tip:** If you enter pricing information while creating a Product, Kajabi automatically uses it to create a matching Offer.
</Tip>

You can also offer a free trial or a discounted entry period in the Offer settings, so customers can experience a level before the full subscription begins.

## Control how members access content

Offer settings decide when customers see your content and for how long, so you can match the pacing and access rules to your program.

* Release everything at once when a customer joins, or drip content on a schedule so it unlocks over time
* Limit access to a set number of days from the purchase date for fixed length programs or trials
* Revoke access automatically when a subscription is canceled or a payment fails, so only active paying members keep access

If you want new members to see only the content released after they join, rather than everything from earlier months, set up a Monthly Enrolling Membership. This model ties each month to its own Offer and Product, so someone who joins in February gets February onward but not January. [Learn how to set up a Monthly Enrolling Membership](/articles/sales/offers/how-to-set-up-monthly-enrolling-memberships).

## Showcase membership levels

Once your Offers are ready, put them where customers can compare tiers and subscribe. Two options work well together.

* Add the Offers to a landing page so visitors see every tier side by side, each with its price and what's included, and can pick the level that fits them
* Add the Offers to your store page so all your levels live in one browsable place alongside your other products

A clear membership page usually lists the tiers in order, from the entry level to the top tier, and shows what each one unlocks so the upgrade path is obvious. ## Keep members engaged

Recurring revenue depends on members staying subscribed, so give them reasons to return. Kajabi includes tools to help you do that:

* Email marketing to onboard new members and win back quiet ones
* A Community for discussion, questions, and connection
* Live events and challenges to build momentum
* Analytics to see which content resonates, so you can keep the experience fresh

## FAQs

### Is there a limit to how many membership levels I can create?

There is no limit specific to memberships. Each level is its own Offer, so the number of levels you can create is limited only by your plan's Offer and Product limits. [Learn about your plan's usage limits](https://help.kajabi.com/articles/account-settings/billing/manage-your-subscription#increase-a-feature-limit).

### Can members upgrade or downgrade between levels themselves?

Yes, if you enable self-serve upgrades or downgrades in your Offer settings. Otherwise, you can manually move a customer between levels by granting the new Offer and revoking the old one from their contact profile.
