Connect a custom email domain with Cloudflare

If you’re using CloudFlare, log into your CloudFlare account to add your unique DNS Records. To connect your custom email domain to Kajabi, you’ll need to add the following DNS records provided by Kajabi to your DNS provider:
  • Three TXT records
  • Two MX records
  • One CNAME record

Add unique DNS records to Cloudflare

To add your DNS records from Kajabi to CloudFlare:

Create unique DNS records in Kajabi

In order to generate your unique DNS records in Kajabi, you must first add your custom email domain in your Kajabi Marketing Settings. To create your DNS records:
  1. From your Kajabi dashboard, open the Settings tab on the bottom left.
  2. Select Marketing settings.
  3. Scroll down to the Email Settings section.
  4. Locate your Custom Email Domain settings.
  5. Input the From name, From email, and Reply-to email for your custom email domain.
  6. Then, click Setup Custom Email Domain.
  7. Your unique DNS records will appear on the Custom Email Domain Setup page:

Add TXT Records

Please note that Kajabi may use different terms for some of the values in a DNS record than those used by any given DNS provider, like CloudFlare. For instance, the terms “Name”, “Host”, and “Host Name” usually refer to the same DNS record component. To add your TXT records:
  1. Log into your CloudFlare dashboard and click into your Active domain.
  2. Select the DNS tab.
  3. Click +Add Record and select TXT from the Type dropdown.
  4. Copy the Name value for the first TXT record created by Kajabi and paste it into the Name field in CloudFlare.
  5. Keep the default value in the TTL field.
  6. Then, copy the Content value in Kajabi and paste it into the Content field in CloudFlare.
  7. Click Save to add your record.
  8. Repeat these steps to add the second and third TXT records:

Add MX Records

  1. Click +Add Record and select MX from the Type dropdown.
  2. Copy the Name value for the first MX record created by Kajabi and paste it into the Name field in CloudFlare.
  3. Then, copy the Mail Server value in Kajabi and paste it into the Mail server field in CloudFlare.
  4. Keep the default value in the TTL field.
  5. Enter 10 for the Priority.
  6. Click Save to add your record.
  7. Repeat these steps to add the second MX record, with the Priority set to 20:

Add CNAME Record

  1. Click +Add Record and select CNAME from the Type dropdown.
  2. Copy the Name value for the first CNAME record created by Kajabi and paste it into the Name field in CloudFlare.
  3. Then, copy the Target value in Kajabi and paste it into the Target field in CloudFlare.
  4. Click the Proxy status toggle off (from “Proxied” to “DNS Only”).
  5. Keep the default value in the TTL field.
  6. Click Save to add your record:
Warning: Why the Proxy status must be “DNS Only” (Error 1014). Cloudflare’s proxy (the “orange cloud”) routes traffic through Cloudflare’s network, but Kajabi’s mail authentication needs to see your CNAME record directly. If this CNAME is left proxied (“orange cloud” instead of “grey cloud / DNS Only”), or if you reconnect the domain and the toggle resets to proxied, you’ll see a “Cloudflare Error 1014 (CNAME Cross-User Banned)” error. If you’ve confirmed the toggle is set to DNS Only and still see this error, the fix requires Kajabi Support to remediate on their backend — contact Kajabi Support with your domain name and mention “Error 1014” rather than continuing to re-enter the same DNS records.

Wait for propagation

The verification process can take up to 48 hours due to the timeframe for the Domain Name System (DNS) changes to propagate.

What does this mean?

To create a successful connection:
  • A custom subdomain has been added to ensure that your records don’t interfere with existing domains.
  • Your DNS changes must propagate, meaning that Internet Service Provider (ISP) nodes across the world must update their caches with your DNS information.

While you wait: confirming propagation vs. a real error

It’s not always obvious whether you should keep waiting or reach out to support. Use this to tell the difference:
  • Use a DNS lookup tool (such as Cloudflare’s own DNS records view, or a public tool like dig or an online DNS checker) to confirm your TXT, MX, and CNAME records are visible and match what Kajabi generated. If they match and it’s been under 48 hours, this is normal propagation — no action needed yet.
  • If it’s been more than 48 hours and your records still don’t match, or you’re seeing Cloudflare Error 1014 specifically, this is a genuine issue rather than propagation delay — contact Kajabi Support rather than continuing to wait or re-adding records.

Can I send emails during this time?

Yes! As your custom email domain propagates, your marketing emails will continue to send via Kajabi’s shared marketing email domain.

Can I make changes to my ‘from’ information during this time?

After updating your DNS records, you can continue to make changes to your “from name”, “from email”, and “reply-to email”. These changes will not impact your custom email domain setup. Regardless of your connection status (i.e. connection pending, error, or successful connection), you can continue to make changes to your ‘from’ information.

How will I know when it’s done?

After the verification process has completed, you’ll receive an email notification from our support team:
  • Your custom email sending domain is confirmed
  • There is a problem with your custom email sending domain
If you’ve received an email notification that your custom email domain is confirmed, your marketing emails will now be sent to your list using your branded email domain.
